Ryder rolls his eyes a lot. In most posts to be precise - don't take offence, I don't think he knows what the emoticon signifies.

As far as I know, the update for 1080p was last year. Too bad there aren't much people that can test it, since most only have 720p or worse. Do some research online on Xbox fanboy sites, I'm sure they will know what to do, and if they don't, tell your friend to make sure his TV supports 1080p, because the screen going black when changing the settings points towards it not supporting that resolution.

Every visual device I have goes black for a second when changing settings. Change the resolution on your computer - it goes black regardless of whether you have it set to do it without reboot.

It goes black while changing. They way it sounds about your friends case is that it tries to change, but it detects that this resolution is not supported, so it changes back.

No, his T.V. is definitely 1080p, he just bought it and it has a huge sticker on the front that says "1080p".

He still hasn't sorted it out, but he doesn't mind playing his games on 1080i, he isn't a screen resolution freak or geek or whatever, he was mainly curious why it didn't work.

I don't think he'd be able to tell the difference if it wasn't for the T.V. telling him it was 1080i.

Thats just stupid, look up HD definitions, and it will show the 720P is better than 1080i by all measures, apart from the number is lower :P
