They purchased Bungie with the express intention of Halo being the flagship launch title for the Xbox. Their plan worked out quite well to say the least considering that, along with GTA and maybe Final Fantasy, Halo is now arguably the biggest game franchise in the world. The difference is that, unlike those other two franchises, Microsoft own the company that make the game as well as the console the game runs on. GTA is already non-exclusive and I have read rumours that Final Fantasy is now well on the way to being the same. Bad news for Sony.

We know FF isn't exclusive. 11 was for the PC, they ported 7 to the PC, and Tactics also came out for the GBA, a Nintendo system.
I don't want Sony to die, but I want them to realize that they can't act like they own everything because they don't. Constantine

If you check industrial history you will find that in every genre there is always one company that gets too big a market share but eventually they crumble and the field becomes even once more. The down side, as your pricks comment suggested, is that the big market share holder can sometimes make daft marketing plays which the little ones follow suit because 'hey' the big guy must know what he is doing because he IS the big player.
These market trends are facinating (read time on my hands for that one 8) ) to watch. Des  |

That last post completly confused me, too many long words, too man................-------=====''''''ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZ
 Back on topic, no Sony are not going to die, did atari die, no, they lost a major business by retiring in the console department, but they are very much alive in the games department. Kev 8) |

The big words you will understand as you become an adult (read as a sarcastic whipper snapper comment)
I have a soft spot for all Atari... I used to belong to a certain group that used Atari's for er.... fun. Also in a magazine I see that Microsoft are letting the Brothers Stamper's go as the heads of british based Rare Software house.... if you guys can remember Microsoft purchased this garage started software house for a whopping $375 MILLION... that is ten times as much as they paid for Bungie (the company that brought you Halo). Although they have released a few note worthy titles since the buy out nothing even close enough to justify the price tag. Des  |
