Default XBox 360 getting online

Ok this is a long shot, i know its a psp forum and all so thats why i posted in general gaming.

I am trying to connect my xbox to me router with the wireless network adapter and it comes up with IP address failed.

I have been onto netgear and xbox customer support both are not any help. All my setting are on automatic, i have tried the adapter on another xbox with another router and it works fine.

My PSP connects to my router fine so cant see it being something wrong with the router, nor the adapter (as i said i tested it out and works on another router).

So it must be the settings on my router and xbox that are not matching.

The xbox detects my router and recieves the SSID and security type but cannot assign an IP address.

Can someone please help me.

I'm not really sure about anything on the Xbox 360, but try just plugging it in (not using the wireless) see if that works. Maybe the USB you're plugging it into isn't working. I should quit trying to answer this question, as I know nothing about the Xbox 360.

Note

* To use the Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter with Xbox Live, you must have a high-speed Internet connection (cable or DSL).
* Not all Internet service providers (ISPs) allow you to share a high-speed connection between multiple devices. Make sure you check with your ISP first. For more information about a specific ISP, see our listing of High-Speed Internet Service Providers.
* To further enhance your Xbox 360 wireless experience, consider also using the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller and the Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote.

Thanks for your attempted help, im afraid was unsuccesful, i know the router and the adapter both work, so its messing about with IP addresses and stuff but thats beyond me.

Anyway, i just gone out and bought a Linksys router that on the xbox website has been tested and verified to work with xbox 360, only £15.

So anyone wants a netgear WGM1240 pre N MIMO technology router that works excellently with psp (very long range) just PM me.

Or may keep it for when summer comes and i can play online outside in the garden on my psp.

I might be interested in it if you don't want it, because than I'd have a wireless router for my mom and dad's house. How much, if you decide to sell it, will you sell it for?

Strange. I'm not using a wireless adapter on mine as my 360 is about four feet from my router but I just plugged it in with an RJ45 and away it went. Didn't have to do anything other than turn the console on.

A friend in work had a lot of problems with his wireless adapter. Does it not work with direct connection?

Yeah, mine done exactly the same using the ethernet port, so im blaming the router.

Oh and yeah, creating flash games isnt all that hard because i done that game from step by step guide just to get the hang of it. Figuring out static IP addresses and everything just annoys me.

Im not too sure if im going to sell it, if i did then it would be £40 + postage as that is what you can get from ebay as a refurbished one.
