Ok so everyone knows i have a modded 360 and now time to tell you i have RROD lol
I think its the DVD drive working overtime which is drawing more power which draws more heat. Causeing the x-clamps to bend the modo and split the soldering. Will be doing the towel trick to sort that out then replacing the x-clamps with washers to stop the mobo bending. Kev ![]() |

After you do the towel trick open it up and make sure there is TONS of air flowing through the exposed motherboard. I still can not believe Microsoft released a console that melts it's own soldering...amazing.

Kev, what speed have you set your drive too.... if 12x turn it down to x8 or even x5... i run an external set of fans for the unit too....
Ryder, the solder they use is green and good for the environment but it has a lower flow point.... bugger really.... hehehehehehehehe... not sure that sending lots of units back for repair using all manner of trucks and planes and trains is good for the environment but hey they tried.... I think the 3rd and 4th gen of motherboards are using the traditional solder (I think). Still having to send them back for repair with a three year warrentee is a small (if annoying) price to pay for the best system out there Des ![]() |

The drive speed can be changed when the drive is connected to your pc and in Mode B (maintenance mode).
I have it on 8x, might stick it on 4. Not really worried about load times... all the same to me. Am considering an external power unit that runs off its own power not the 360 as i hear those make them worse. It might not be the solder, as it freezes the screen but apparently the solder that breaks is around the cpu and gpu so stopping all process which would explain the sudden freeze. Or maybe its shorting out on something? Il take a look. Kev ![]() |

![]() Since the rrod that I have had i am using an intercooler... with it's own power supply... really good... the difference is amazing.... but down side it is loud... up side the volume control can make the 360 even louder.... ![]() Best of luck with your unit mate... you gonna send back for repair????
