The towel idea is that the 360 runs hot so you wrap it up in a towel or blanket and REALLY let it get hot then all the solder is soft and flowing.... the idea being is that any dry and cracked joints should now be fixed.... cool... or not as the case might be.... not sure I would like to cook my 360 just incase that causes another problem.... although if your out of warrenty what you got to loose.

ahhh, so this is the answer.
my work mate did say that she has done it herself a couple of times (she has 5 xbox 360 - not too sure why) and it works - like... really works. not too sure if its something i would ever had tried myself, but like you said if the wrrenty had run out and...... x
