Default PSP Re-Design Iminent

We all saw it coming. This news article just solidifies it even further:

Quote:
Last week we reported about Sony launching a video download service in 2007 for the Sony PSP. We concluded that for this to successful Sony needs to release a Sony PSP with hard-drive.

In a presentation where Samsung introduced a 1.8 inch HDD dubbed N Series they showed a slide featuring a Sony PSP with the headline "enjoy the Movie everywhere".

The new Samsung N Series HDDs are aimed at mobile devices and come in 20GB, 30GB, 40GB and 60GB capacities.

There you have it. The new video service for the Sony PSP will drive the release of a new PSP with hard-drive to compete with the Apple iPod video and the Microsoft Zune and other PMPs.

Well if it doesn't have a keyboard like the mylo or some other little qwerty keyboard, i'm not shelling out 300 bucks just for a hardrive. Unless It is a real big hard drive so that I can replace my Ipod, but then they would have to make the software more user friendly, perhaps a button for direct access to the music menu. Lets face it, the PSP buttons aren't conducive to easy acces to anything, and the software (psp media manager) sucks booty.

So if Sony truly reforms the PSP, with a HDD and a keyboard, and makes the menu more easy to use, then I may get a new one. Oh, and make the wifi compatible with the g standard as well.

I highly doubt we will see a keyboard on the new release but I bet there will be a nice keyboard attachment. As for HD size, as you can see from the article, the HD in the new design will be nothing less than 20 gigs which means it will be more along the lines of 30 - 60 gigs. I am sure they will even offer options for different capacities. I have to agree with you on dedicated music buttons as well as a whole separate section of the CPU dedicated to music playing somewhat like the 360. So I can play my own music while playing a game then seamlessly put the PSP in my pocket without missing a beat. I move around alot from train to train, moving about New York City, etc etc and that would be a huge feature for me.

Congrats on the new PSP. I'm getting mine Thursday, hopefully they won't postpone it again...

Knowing my luck with the PSP, I'd say that my new one will break soon after these are released, so I might get one... Hopefully they'll be able to be hacked, I'd love 60GB for homebrew!

Dude, you've got like 1200 posts on this forum and you DON'T have a PSP yet? whoa...that's kinda weird. Did you have one before and then bricked it?

Oh, nevermind, I just saw your signature. Sorry. Are you gonna get a 1.5 or just get one from a store?

Well I have to be honest, if there isn't at least a nice little foldable keyboard attachment for the new PSP, then i'm not touching it. I will only be duped by sony so many times. Fool me once, shame on me, fool me thrice, shame on you...wait, that didn't sound right. Anyway, you get the picture.

That is the only thing that I really care about. I probably won't get rid of my Ipod anyway. But with all of the new ways that we can communicat over the internet (viop, text, video), I would really like a workable keybaord. Maybe if they got rid of that stupid UMD drive (and put all the games on 1GB memory sticks) they could put some kind of fold out keyboard.

GIVE ME SOMETHING SONY!!!!!!

The games would be more expensive if they were on memory sticks. And also, Sony wouldn't do that because they'd be able to be shared more easily. I'm fine with the PSP just the way it is.

I've had quite a few PSPs.

First on I got for Christmas 2005, took it apart to wipe the dust from under the screen, got carried away and took the whole thing apart and than broke it putting it back together.

Second one I got from Ebay, when I got it the screen was broke, so than I took the screen from my first one and replaced it. Than I just kept having problems with parts of it.(I think the main issue I had with it was that the internet's arrow would only go down to the bottom right)

Third one I got for My Birthday(July 20th) I bought this thing from Radioshack so I could use these big headphones on my PSP, the thing broke off while I was using it, damaging the PSP's sound (the headphones wouldn't work right in it, and it wouldn't play through the speakers.)

Fourth one I'm getting on Thursday, but it'll be a 3.03 TA-089 or something unhackable like that, so I'm trading it in to Gamestop for $120.

Fifth one I'm getting on Thursday or Friday for $160, but it'll be either 1.5 or downgradeable, than I'm going to put 3.02 OE-B on it, and it'll work forever.

^You clearly have a PSP purchasing problem. May I recommend A.) not taking apart your PSPs and B.) not homebrewing. That should make a PSP last more than 2 months.
