probably a silly question, but couldnt programmers, write a program for the PC that basiclly mimics the psp. and you could load these files to it and see what they do?

Yep. They have a prog called PSPe which is a PSP emulator for the PC. I don't know how well it works but people say it's useable.

Sorry to ask a stupid question, but does this virus make your PSP so it can NEVER be used again, or do you just have to upload firmware again?

no it bricks the psp, which means your psp is about as usefull as a brick. it deletes 4 vital files on the psp's memory so that it cannot start back up again, so if you get this virus you will not be able to turn the psp on.

i spose sony could easily fix this buy wiping the memory and puting back the files, but thats a big pain, thats why i suggested that sony should do something so we can back up the psp from our computer or be able to boot it from a UMD.

that means, rather than the psp getting the info it needs to start up from its memory, it gets it from a disk, and you cant put a virus on a UMD unless sony do it themselves.

Surely Sony would have to replace / repair the console free of charge if this happened within the warruntee period and no naughty behaviour / mods had led to the bricking?

no because they say, any downloads, or websites you visit is entirely up to you and sony will not take responsibility to what happens, so its at your own risk.

What were you doing when you got it? It only comes in the form of a downgrader (this means you have to download a program, install it (with a computer) and then run it on your PSP). Your PSP still might be ok.

If you are telling the truth, the fact your PSP isn't working has absolutely nothing to do with the subject of this thread.
