Hopefully a second party will come out with a better battery.
I plan to play mostly at home. Can I plug the PSP in to a wall outlet and play that way without the battery in the unit?

Yes you can.
but, if you keep charging it all the die, it wil kill your battery. therefore shortening the actual battery duration.
kit... did you even read what he said??? he said he'll play WITHOUT the battery inside.. how's that gonna damage the battery?
lol, my bad didnt read it fully hahaha

Default BIG PROBLEM HERE.... :(

today i was playing THUG2R on my psp.. and it got stuck several times... i had to eject the disc... i waited more than 10 secs each time and nothing happened... and then i couldnt even shut it off.. some of the times i even had to take the battery off cause when i ejected the umd the screen just displayed "please wait" and never got me to the menu... not even the home button worked.. i really dont know if it could be a problem in the game or the psp.. but im really upset.. cause i live in Honduras, Central America.. and got my psp two weeks ago since i was in the US.. and i wont be able to change any of the two for a new one....

That's very bad.
But you still have two choice, first is to repair it, try to find a store that know how to repair psp or just find a friend that know how to fix psp.

Second, you can just buy a new one or go back to US(not a good idea), if you really need to you can do that.

btw, these are just suggestions you donn't need to follow.

ill keep on testing it.. im sure i wont go again for at least a year.. and there are no stores which can fix it.. (third world country.. :x ) and no friends or anyone either.. what i dont know is if it is the game or the console... the game isnt scratched at all by the way.. do you think it may be a defective game by any chance?

wut could i do now? im really upset.. a 250$ device made by sony is supposed to be high quality.. doesnt it?... so it's a problem with reading the umd? it'd take more than 4 weeks to send it, get it replaced, and have it back here.... worst of all.. it could get lost in its way.. and id have to pay too much shipping....

Well, My advice would be to 'make' a fifth dead pixel. You know... poke a hole.

Some of the other major problems for the PSP are white dust under the screen, disc read errors, and the square button sticking. I've experienced the disc read errors. Not a single UMD will be read. However, this is the first time I have experienced a problem because of the manufacturer and I am not to worried that it will happen again, and even if it does I thought Sony was friendly enough to resolve the situation.

Three things.

1. Don't necro a dead thread. This thing is a couple months old.
2. Use the search function conveniently located at the top of your screen, and in my signature.
3. Nothing. Dead pixels are dead. Either return it or buy a new one if it bothers you that much.
