    3 Com Router

Sorry to hear about the accident. What were you riding? I have the Honda (sorry ) VFR 800 (Interceptor to you).

    Anyhow back to PSP matters.

I am having problems gettin my son's PSP connected. TRied both manually and by scanning.

Manual entry of setup is OK except tjhe PSP askes for the "Default Server" but our 3Com Wireless Router/modem does not have such a setting. Any ideas?

Scanning works well in that it picks up the SSID and other settings BUT when connecting it times out whilst trying to get an IP address.

The PSP does not allow for a mix of scan/manual. If i did I could easily enter the IP address.

    Any suggestions?

    Navrig:

It sounds like a simple IP conflict.

Did you try a factory restore on your PSP?
Did you enable IP addressing in the wireless section of your router's setup?
You can find the default server in your router's setup dialog as well.

    Here's something else to try:

    1. Turn off ALL computers and the PSP.

    2. Restore the wireless router's factory defaults first. Do this by locating the tiny reset button. You may need to consult your manual for the location of the button.

    3. Turn on your desktop computer and allow Windows to completely load. (At this time, do not try to open up Explorer or anything.)

    4. Turn on any other PC's and again, allow Windows to load completely.

    5. Turn on your PSP, and try to connect to the internet.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. I actually got some help from another site. The problem was that Sony referred to a default server whilst 3com referred to a default gateway. Stupid me did not realise that they are one and the same.

I was just going to ask the same question! I'm planning on getting a 1G stick, but I only have a 32MB card right now, since I just bought my PSP. Let me know if you find out anything about this, as I am very anxious to fix the problem. Thanks! ~Mitch

    Hi everyone,

I'm a regular reader of these forums but only got my PSP yesterday. Needless to say i think its fantastic.

The only thing im having problems with at the moment is connecting to the internet - i ahve a wirelss router and a couple of PCs in my house.

I have no problems connecting to the rtouer from my psp - it obtains all the setting/IP addresses perfectly fine. but when it tries to connect to the internet it always fails and 9 times out of 10 while i have the browser open it will come up with the following error:

"Communication with the server failed. A DNS error has occurred (80410410)"

    Can anyone help me please?

Aha - mever mind. I've found a website that helped me getting it working (just needed to get a different DNS IP address - apparently the one my router had wasnt gud enuf for the PSP)

    New info

One problem that seems to pop up from time to time is the inability to get online with the PSP while there are 2 or more computers in the home that are online.

It seems that some routers have a default setting that only allows up to two IP address at any given time, and some have three. If you run into this issue, check to see how many devices are permitted, and if need be, change it.

Thanks. I've only been working with computers for 20 years. I guess I learned a little.
