Question A newbie and I need some advice please...

Hi there

I've had a DS for a while but since my mate has a PSP and has been telling me it's much better I think I'm going to get one.

But the PSP seems much more complicated with all the options you can get.

My friend tells me I need one that has custom firmware? (3.71 M33) He suggested I get one from ebay so I can play his games on his memory stick.....I know I might seem like a cheapskate but I'm not honest lol.

But I don't know what that means and I actually want the Ice Silver from the USA instead and I'm not sure what software it comes with and I just want to know can I put this custom firmware on and how easy is it?

Lastly does it allow you to do anything other than play memory card games?

Thanks

Hello amd welcome.
Both the PSP and the Ds are fine handhelds and both have unique qualities.

What you are specifically asking about is pirate software... well both can run pirate software or personnal back-ups... The Ds is far easier to do this with than the PSP and has a far greater selection of "back-ups" available.... BUT as this is a site where piarcy is not openly talked about I suggest you await some PM's from members into that sort of thing or check out some other sites.

If your friend has custom firmware on his PSP its very easy to convert a PSP bought straight from a shop into a 3.71M33 PSP.

1. Buy the PSP
2. Download the Pandora Battery creator and the Files to create the "magic memory stick", which is basically a bunch of files that allow the custom firmware update to commence, this otherwise is impossible on an official PSP. These files can be deleted from the memory stick when finished, and the battery can be returned to normal when it has served its purpose.
3. Create the pandora battery on ur friends psp, copy the files to the memory stick
4. put the memory stick in ur new psp, and then put the battery in.
5. Ur psp will automatically turn on. The update will commence.
6. When finished, use the ac adaptor to turn on ur friends psp, place the battery in, and go to the pandora battery creator
7. Restore the battery and delete the "magic memory stick" files
8. Ur left with 2 PSPs with custom firmware.

Im sure you have tons of questions, but it really is that simple.

YOU DONT HAVE TO PAY EXTRA ON EBAY IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WITH A CUSTOM FIRMWARE PSP.

EDIT: Slim psp batteries cannot be modded, attempts to do so will render the battery useless. Only Old style Official PSP Phat (1800 MAh) can be used for the pandora battery function (unless im wrong forum....?)
