[TUTORIAL] Make a Pandora Battery and Stick with no CFW PSP

I noticed a way to make a Pandora's battery with only a little piece of wire after someon on QJ suggested how I could fix my battery that somehow broke itself.

First off, either wear a rubber glove or use a rubber coated wire if you don't want a little shock. Than to get to to a Pandora's Battery, you short the middle and + pins using the wire. To get it to a normal battery you short the - and + pins. For some reason it doesn't always work, but just keep trying and it shoudl eventually work.

This is a step by step guide on how to make a Pandora (Service Battery) and a Magic Mem Stick without another PSP.

    Things you need:
    1. PSP running any Firmware
    2. 1 Memory Stick (Pro-Duo, 512mb – 4gb)
    3. 2 Batteries (one to use for normal operations, and one that we will turn into a Service Battery)
    4. The Newbie Mem Stick Program. Link is here…. Magic Mem Stick for Newbies
    5. A sewing needle
    6. a knife or razor blade

First thing we will do is create the Mem Stick:

    Step 1:
Download the Mem Stick Installer, when you have downloaded it, extract it to your desktop.

    Step 2:
Put your battery and mem stick into your PSP, and power it up.

    Step 3:
Format the Mem Stick using the PSP.

    Step 4:
Now connect the PSP to your PC via the USB Cable.

    Step 5:
Now you will go back to the Newb Installer and open the folder, you should see a bunch of .rar archives and some Icons, find the Icon named “START”, then click it. It should open up a DOS Style Program on your desktop. It should be prompting you to press any button to continue, go ahead and hit any button.

    Step 6:
Now it should tell you to Format the memory stick using the PSP, go ahead and do this again, I know we did it once already but it never hurts to do it again. Then reconnect to your PC, then hit any button to continue.

    Step 7:
Now type in the letter of the Drive that your PC recognizes your PSP as, in example my PC recognizes my PSP as drive G: once you have entered it, then hit any button to continue.

    Step 8:
It will tell you to enter a new disk, don’t worry about that just hit ENTER button to continue.

    Step 9:
Now the Installer will tell you what file format your stick currently is then it will re-format it into a FAT32 File format. This will take a few seconds. Now it will ask you for a name or label for the Drive, Just hit ENTER, DO NOT LABEL IT!!

    Step 10:
Now it will tell you you are about to format the drive, do you wish to continue, hit “y” then enter. It will appear as if nothing is happening but its working.

    Step 11:
Once its done it will tell you to take the mem stick out then disconnect USB. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT YOU DO THIS JUST LIKE IT SAYS!

    Step 12:
Now hit any key, it will tell you to Re-insert the Memory stick, and re-start the USB Connection, go ahead and do this. Then hit any key to continue.

    Step 13:
Now you should see the Pandora menu, go ahead and choose the best option for you. I always use #4, because its universal and it will install CFW 3.71 m33-1 on to any PSP you use the stick on! Once you have selected the best option for you type it in then hit enter.

    Step 14:
You will see a blinking cursor for a sec, no worries its working, then you will see it start putting all necessary files on to the stick. The last file named G:3.71.PBP will take a while but just watch the percent complete to the right.

    Step 15:
Now you will see a screen that has a bunch of info then at the bottom it will ask you if you want to write the ABS Sector, hit “y” then enter.

    Step 16:
It should now say “Write MS Boot Code” go ahead and press any key to continue.

    Step 17:
Now you will see a thank you screen, hit any key again to continue. The program will close.

    Step 18:
Remove the Memory Stick, then disable USB Connection. Now your Finished! You now have a Magic Mem Stick with CFW installer on it.

Now to create your Service Battery:
I have only found 2 Batteries this works on they are as follows:
PSP-110 (1800mAH) # down on bottom right of sticker: 2-581-225-03
PSP-280 (2200mAh) # down on bottom right of sticker: 2-637-269-11

    Step 1:
Take your spare battery, and open it up. BECAREFULL NOT TO PUSH A KNIFE TO FAR INTO BATTERY CASE YOU MIGHT PUNCTURE THE BATTERY CELL!

    Step 2:
Once you have it apart, look at the circuit board, and find the word “IC04”, you should see a little micro-controller right next to it. On that micro-controller it will have 8 pins. It will be the pin on the bottom right. Here is a pic of what it should look like. (I got the 1st PIC from the web, it is not my pic, my camera didn't want to work so thanks to whoever took the pic.) 2nd pic, I took.

    Step 3:
Tape your battery down to your work area so it doesn’t move, then tape the circuit board to cover all the areas around the micro-controller. Doing this will help prevent any accidental shorting of the battery if you accidentally touch the needle to something else while touching the controller.

    Step 4:
Now take your sewing needle and slide it under pin 5, then gently pull up and outward to the right. (you might have to repeat this step a few times to weaken the pin.) It will break free from the circuit board. *NOTE - ensure the tip of needle is not touching pin 6, it will short the battery!

    Step 5:
Now un-tape everything, and put the battery back together. You can use very small amount of super glue or, just tape the battery together. *Caution when tapeing, it will create a very tight fit into the PSP Battery Compartment, and you will have to really push it in all the way to make the Battery connect to the receptors on the PSP!)

    Step 6:
That’s it, your done! You now have a service battery.

*NOTE – To use these on a PSP, you must first insert the Mem Stick, then the Battery! Then simply follow the on screen instructions, enjoy CFW!

Thanks guys, as soon as my camera decides it wants to work again I will take a few pics of the circuit boards on the different types of Batteries and edit the sticky for everyone.

I also made this while actually doing it again just to ensure its accurate and it works for everyone!

    Pandoras bootloader

    Hey man tegarezzi

thanks for ur wonderful tutorial. But i think the pandoras normal bootloader available will work with the batt. So 1 might not need a second batt. I just say dat attach the link for that n edit ur tutorial. Hey i hv 1 more Qs . I hv a batt which is probably not 1 of the 2 batts u hv showed. It has a circuit board same as the second 1 in the pic. But it has nothing like ICO4 or CO4. It just has i IC ,big 1. Wat do u say abt that? Is there ny way i can pandora it?
Or is there any other way so dat i can downgrade my 3.71 to M33-1????

    Thanks a lot man

Im not sure about the bootloader, In my search for a way to create pandora battery without a PSP with CFW, this is the only way I could do it. I tried like 5 programs and installers and all kind of crap that said you can make a pandora with out CFW, but I just dont think its possible. If you get it to work, PM me with a link to the bootloader and tell me how you did it, and I will edit the sticky. As for that battery you mentioned, I have one of those as well, there isnt a way to turn it into a service battery cause Sony got smart, and figured out a way to not use the micro-controller that we need to cut. You can turn it into a pandora battery the common way. Just not the way I mention in the guide. When getting ready to turn a battery into a service one, look at the sticker on the back, down at the bottom right hand corner will be a long number if it starts with "CGA" or something similar to that it wont have the micro-controller. I hope that helped.

    hey tergazzi

but my batt isnt the cga-- 1 u were sayin. my that no. on the sticker is 2-664-745-21 n after that a small B. wat abt this. and my psp is 3.80. Is there a process to downgrade it without another psp??

and the link to the pandora normal boot loader is
    [GUIDE] Pandoras Battery.
Just scroll down to PSP Normal Bootloader for Pandora's Battery

    Thanks a lot!!

hmmm, thats interesting, i havent came across a battery like that, what I will do is take a pic of the one i have, that cant be used, and I will post it for you, take it look at it and tell me if the board is the same as yours ok. I am going to download the Bootloader now and tinker with it through out the day see if i can get it to work, if I do, I will let you know. (but if it does work on my psp it might be cause im already running CFW3.71 m33-4)we shall see though.

*EDIT* - Read the list of what you need for that BOOTLOADER, it will only work if you have a PSP that can run 1.50 FW (or CFW) so no the bootloader wont work on your Original Firmware. Unless you bought a PSP few years ago, and never updated it past 1.50.

*2nd EDIT* - I tried messing around with that BOOTLOADER and with normal 3.80 FW I couldnt get it to work, so yeah you really do need CFW with 1.50 add on or Original Sony 1.50 Firmware to use it.

honestly, i would have to see the circuit board to tell you, I dont have a complete list of batteries with numbers to compare to. I want to build a list but there are just so dang many types of batteries with different numbers it would be a lengthy project. Is it an official Sony Battery? what i will do is type in that number and what not and search for it, maybe someone out there has posted a pic of the circuit board so you dont have to open it up, just in case its not compatible.

*i am getting close, i am finding the circuit boards for the s110 1200mAH just trying to find one that specifies the model number. Well i found several but none with a model number just s110. I dont own a slim, so i havent tried the s110, but I would have to say if it has the chip labeled "IC04" it will work you just have to figure out which pin is the #5 pin. I also heard somewhere you can cut the board itself breaking the pcb copper line to pin #5, but they guy never got back to me to tell me if it worked or not.
