No. The 4WD engine is the same exact thing as a my engine. So it's the same amount of power but it has to go to all four tires. It's a known fact that 4X4's are slower off the line.

Hm.... I know that in the car world, awd's are great in acceleration. Take the Evo for example, it gives off all the power to four tires and blasts off the line. And I assumed the 4wd engine was the same as yours.

It gives it more grip to the road because theirs more surface area pulling. 4WD have more torque...but that's alot different than acceleration.

Also, 4WD and AWD aren't one and the same. 4WD is where all 4 wheels are ALWAYS being powered...and AWD is a little more high-tech, where when the car feels the back tire(s) slipping, the front ones kick in. That would explain why Lambos, Evos, and Imprezas are quick off the line, because they don't use all four wheels unless they have to.

Not doubting you, but how would more torque and grip give you worse acceleration?

I had a feeling you'd say something about that. I know what the difference is between the two. Either way, an awd's giving off power to all 4's on the launch anyways.

4wd helps in cars on take off to reduce spinning, basically you wont be able to wheelspin in a 4wd but in a RWD you could sit there doing a burnout forever and a day. I'd think a RWD would be quicker than a 4wd but I'm not certain on that, no idea what the difference between 4wd and AWD, always thought they were the same.

A 4wd doesnt have more torque than a 2wd, thats just to do with the engine, and will affect the acceleration of it.

My mate just bought a Fiesta Mk1 XR2 Turbo, over 20 years old but fat as f***, running 180BHP and I think it was 225lbs of torque because its got the bottom end off a 1.8.

well since my car is poorly and it really isn't worth spending any money on it, my bro has found me a Citroen ZX 1.4 with 12 months MOT for £100, what more could I want? dunno what to do with my old corsa as it has a great engine in it, might find a Nova with a decent shell to stick the engine in.
