Default SUCCESSFUL DUAL BOOT

I just wanted to announce that I have successfully dual booted my laptop with Windows XP SP2 and Mac OS X 10.4.7. If anyone is interested in doing this, this is what I did:

Oh yea, before I forget, I'm not liable for anything you do to your computer. Kay?

-Download Acronis Disk Director Suite (Buy it or...uhh...you know where to get it)

-Open it up and PARTITION your harddrive (Select your harddrive and then 'Create Partition')

When selecting options for your drive, DO NOT name it, DO NOT format it, and DO NOT assign a letter to it. ( I did all three of those my first time arund and the partitoin associated itself with Windows, so I erased my entire harddrive.)

-After you go through the settings and click COMMIT, your computer will reboot and the partition will be made.

-After your reboot, open Acronis again and select the Windows drive.

-Right click, advanced, name or Rename(Name it whatever you want - this is just so it doesn't show up as 'Untitled' in Mac OS X)

-Commit, and exit acronis. Click start, all programs, acronis, acronis disk director, then select Install OS Selector.

-it will install and blah blah. (This step is so you can select which OS you want to boot at startup)

-After all that is done, find a friend at Apple and get a Mac OS X 10.4.- install DVD for Intel processors (or get it from the same place you got Acronis, you pirates)

-Reboot with the DVD in the tray, and hit F12 or whatever the key is to select boot up options. DO NOT select DVD from Acronis.

-It will take a while to load, but keep clicking Continue until you get to the select destination screen. It should be blank.

-On the upper tool bar, click UTILITIES

-Then click DISK UTILITIES

-Wait for it to load, and then select the partition you made earlier. (It will most likely be named 'disk0s2' or something like that)

-Then on the right, click erase

-Then down in the lower menu, click HFS+ Journouled, and name your drive (I named mine Tiger)

-Click Erase

-After it is done, exit (ALT+Q)

-Select your new drive, and go to town.

After you install it will ask you to reboot. Go ahead and do that. When you get to Acronis, it might not see your new OS. in that case look around the menus for a 'Search for OS' button or something like that (I don't remember what I clicked). It will do it's thing, then reboot again. Select the new Unnamed OS, rename it to something (I named mine Mac OS X86 Tiger), and you're done!

If you need any help, PM me, preferably before you erase your entire harddrive.

I've been thinking about attempting to dual boot my XP PC for a while. I don't know if it would be possible though. I don't have an Intel processor. Mine is an AMD Athlon (2.00Ghz). Would it work on this?

Yea, when you borrow (torrent) an install disc it should have an AMD processor patch to allow it to run. make sure your processor is SSE2 or SSE3 compatible. Wiki those to find a list.

If you download Acronis, you can create and manage partitions without losing a kb of data. That's what I ALWAYS use, and you should too.
