The Zune

I'm sure many of you have heard of the Zune by now. For those of you who have not, its Microsoft's iPod killer and from what I've seen so far its going to do way more damage than any other supposed iPod killer.



It'll be released on the 14th of November in the US at $249 and speculations say that it should be released early December in the UK ($249 translates into about £140 though I would imagine it would be more around £160-170)
It comes with a 30Gb 1.8" HD and a 3" LCD screen. Users will be able to send photos, and music (no videos) from Zune-to-Zune via WiFi. (802.11 b/g)

Size wise, it is slightly bigger than the iPod but it does feature a bigger screen;

This looks interesting but I don't think Zune will be more popular than the iPod. Apple will bring out a new iPod that will probably be better than Zune, but we'll see. I like the fact that you can send photos and music via wifi.

I donno personal if i throw a gig of music on my psp im good to go. I dont need a fancy case or anything and francly carrying around my psp and the zune would just get annoying.

However I think it has come to late most people already got there ipods and have no need for the new zune.

Hmmm...pretty neat. Man Microsoft and Apple are just going at it lately. Have any of you guys seen the commercials with Apple and PC... :lol: they're pretty funny TBH.

This gadget definately has the capabilty of killing the iPod...but like WWET said, Apple will probably come out with something even better a couple months afterwards. I like the whole idea of sending and receiving music and photos over Wi-Fi.

iPod is gonna die...all apple has done is added a unneeded 20GBs to their iPod video thus 80GBs...stupid in my opinion...

iPod will only do better because of the brand.... Everyone wants one because it's the "cool" thing to have. In a lot of cases, if you were to set two mp3 players in front of a teen, one being an iPod and the other being a different brand but nearly half the price, the teen would probably buy the iPod.

Ehh...I knew the Zune was gonna come out, but still decided to get a Creative Zen Vision:M. It doesn't have Wifi like the Zune, but it's still better than the iPod...and perhaps better than the Zune (except for the Wifi).

I totally agree. But wo knows Zune could be the new cool thing 2. Honestly I aint jumpin at the chance to waste money on sommin I dont need. But then again I always wantted to be cool.

The thing with the iPod is that it is becoming too popular. Apple's sales of the iPod didn't stop climbing for 17 quarters but the last 2Q's have seen a dramatic fall in sales.
I've read that experts are saying that it is suffering from its own success. People will still buy them but many people may want something else, something different.
IMO the 5th Gen iPod doesn't look as good as the 4th Gen. It seems a bit disproportional, the touch wheel is too small for the area it is in.

If I had to choose right now between a new iPod or the Zune, I would pick the Zune

If you're going to make statements like that I suggest you do a little resarch. Not only have they added 20gb, but they have increased the screen brightness and clarity by 60% and increased the battery life on video playback (60gb -> 80gb models) from 4 hours to nearly seven hours. And to top it off they have reduced the price.

The problem with the Zune is that, currently, it does not support video. Until it does the size of the screen is completely irrelevent and the Zune will sell like ice in Alaska. No, Microsoft will have to do better than this to knock Apple off it's perch. However, like with consoles, once Microsoft starts it won't give up until it's number one.
