its in the news today about ISP's finding out who is responsible for illegal file sharing and in particular the music industry has supported this move
UK ISP's reach anti-file-sharing deal - Digital Lifestyle - Macworld UK It mentions as well that those suspected of file sharing "may have their download speeds throttled and may even get cut off all together" like what the hell??? Firstly, how? Seeing as many P2P connections are obfuscated or encrypted, i'd really like to know how they gonna get the evidence together to support these claims. If they do, expect a letter soon from one of the 6 ISP's. Simple solution, dont choose one of these internet providers as yours ![]() BT, Virgin, Orange, Tiscali, BSkyB and Carphone Warehouse.... And if they are and they start sending you dirty letters, time to switch These are also the same providers that are gonna start jamming premium services and restricted access to the net down our throats anyway, so it makes sense to leave them to their "big plans for the net". cos they SUCK for choosing how the net should develop! While stealing other people copyrighted materials is wrong and I dont condone it. These ISP's are killing the ethos of the net. If you walk into a library I don't expect to be told what books i can and cannot read, i'm not 6 years old! As for the filesharing - theres new ways of sharing files coming through all the time, and many of the new ways like FTP servers which contain encypted archives. So i'd like them to beat that hahahahahaha. I win - This round |

LOL, they honestly might aswell give up on trying to restrict the internet. Its a global force, no ISP is gonna stop.
As High Roller said, they gotta get around encryption first. Just say it was home made holiday videos you was downloading... Kev ![]()

They might just have to be seen as doing something proactive towards piracy, it doesnt have to be effective. The ISP's are gettin a massive increase on business from filesharing. they'd be stupid to ban it completely
Also, i dont know where the law stands on this, but i'm sure they encroach on some privacy issues here when they snooping on what ur doing on the net. Bonkers, nanny net - not liking the way things are going |

They simply have to change the contract stating that the details which are sent over their connections are freely available to view by them for these purposes. And no they dont need permission to edit your contract.
Like the "pay more for the big sites" thing, this also wont work, or a way around it will emerge. Kev ![]()

Its really funny how the ISPs claim that they are against illegal file sharing, meanwhile the only thing they really care about is how to make it impossible for people to use the connections the way they claim it works. I've heard about this happening to some people here at the US with the cable companies. Basically if you actually max out your speed (with boost service it goes up to 30 mbps), and you use it that way for some extended time, you will start getting phone calls from the ISP asking you to stop using it so much.
