Piracy and porn are the main backbone to the webs usage.... not sure they would really want to stop either but if they wanted to they could.... take China for example... they have the net... but not like yours or mine... they have a restricted access to limited web pages.... putting restrictions to home country origins is easily possible... restricting data transfer to small packets is also possible... but as lots have said before there will always be ways and means to get around restrictions...and then the powers that be will try something else etc etc... it goes on and on.
If the big companies start to prove that piracy is costing them billions and billions in lost revenue then perhaps things will change. But the same stories have been floating about for years... on the net... on bbs... all we can do is wait and see. Des ![]() |

I'm kinda hoping the govt. doesnt step in. In the case of china, they restrict everything they think is bad for the country. Or contains a bad word such as ''Tibet''. Its very possible, but at this stage the ISP's are opting into this scheme and some are wisely staying out, whether it be the filesharing thing or the premium content filtering. Not sure if there is a way to get around it in China, probably not due to the fact everything is monitored - which is the away things are going here and in america and canada - as well as a few other european countires such as sweden in the case of the pirate bay.
Due to the current level of freedom on the net, i'm optimistic there will be a way around things, whether it be logging onto other networks - or theorectically a pseudo- net running alongside the current internet (i just made that up) and accessing both networks at will - highly theorectical, but if i can think up a theory like that in 5 seconds then 100's of other theories do exist for maintaining the level of freedom that exists at the very mimimum - this can all change if the govts. step in and make it law to monitor everything going through your phone line, in which case - is a massive huge task considering the infrastructure currintly in place - it would cost billions to make that a reality. Theres treaties in place protecting our privacy to certain extent which china isnt privy too. Poor sods can't get porn lol ![]() |

Luckily, I steal internet from Comcast and I'm too cheap to pay anything to anyone.
