Have a great day Kev.... track days are cool just make sure you don't end up in the middle of a bunch of newbies.
I miss bike rallies and meets like Box hill and Whiteways and Poole and Odiham and Alton meets etc.... did Thruxton a few times and Donnington.... was at a KFC here last week when a 400 four honda done up like a cafe racer pulled in... said to the geezer nice cafe racer.... yes he said it's based on an English racer.... yep can see that parked outside of the Ace cafe.... you know the Ace he said.... well yeah been there lots of times.... thought the bloke was gonna fall on the floor scream that he is not worthy..... not until you get outta England you realise just what a great biking country it is and it's biking history. aaah... BoxHill.. a greasy Ryka's burger and then off the hassle the local plod for a couple of laps! remember it well. My best moment was losing the chain on my TDR250 whilst doing the best wheelie of my life (to that point - done better since) and nearly binning it into the gathered masses!
I only ever did one track day at Cadwell Park, back in the days i was a Sales Manager at a H-D and Buell dealership but a mate of mine used to race 500GP in the early eighties (Skoal Bandit Suzuki) and did a one-off Battle of the Twins championship back in 95. Visited and went round almost every track in the UK and had an absolutle scream!! Never done Rockingham so be careful of that Wall, Kernel Kev and keep it shiny side up. But dont be tooo careful - still ride it like you stole it! |

IM BACK!
Des: Cheers mate, had a hoot of a time, gots a few photos and videos, they are on the way soon. I beed Ace Cafe too, its ok, lots of history there. Redfox: Kept it shiney side up thank god. Unlike a few others there. Yeah there was 17 crashes by lunch time and 10 red flags, the record was 12 but after our "COMPULSORY" second meeting and being told off no one crashed. As this was my first track day i started in the novice group (remained in the novice group too lol) but i dont think i was doing too bad, managed to overtake 6-7 different people. At one point i overtook 2 on the straight, i think they was on older 600's so my 30-some more bhp helped on the coming out of corners. And yes, i did get stuck behind a few REALLY slow people, but got round them eventually. Some guys there was way too fast for the novice group, i think they went novice so they could "win" - tossers. Ummmm, my bike had a few problems, the front-left brake disk is warped so it kinda shudders under hard breaking and it gets stuck in between gears when changing from 2nd to 3rd, nearly caused me to ride straight into the gravel .All in all, great day, now i still dont see how people say that its better than drag racing. I can see that it requires more skill, but i dont see it as more exciting... on a drag bike where you know you havent control, your only there to hold the throttle open... is just such a rush. Skydiving tops it all though i must say. Il upload some pics in a while. Kev ![]() |
