Default Newb answers pls

i have just been given a firmware update for my version 1.5 psp.
it is now 3.52 m33-4
is this any good??
as the guy at work reckoned it would not a umd inserted to play games

I would upgrade to 3.71 M33, and on 3.71 you dont need a umd on some games, but most you do.

Its just the newer firmware that sony released but is also able to play homebrew.
