Below is a small table I have compiled of each available firmware (at this time) and if and how to run homebrew on it. It is mainly to help new owners who want to use homebrew. To find out your firmware version, go to Settings -> System Settings -> System Information. Please note that, at this time, no downgrade is available once you install firmware 2.80 or above.
V1.0 - The original Japanese firmware and until April last year, the only firmware which could use homebrew. Homebrew can be run on this fine but as most releases are designed for V1.5 or above, a few modifications might need to be done to the EBOOT file if you are having problems. PSP Brew is the best program for doing this in my opinion. V1.5 - The best firmware choice for homebrew. All homebrew releases work with this. V1.51 - No homebrew available on this firmware. You need to upgrade to V2.0 minimum then either downgrade to V1.5, use the Tiff exploit or GTA method (all explained below). V1.52 - As with V1.51. V2.0 - You have three options here. You can use the V2.0 TIFF homebrew exploit, you can downgrade to V1.5 using the MPH Downgrader or use the GTA method. Note: The GTA method is not available on any firmware below V2.0 as the game will not run on these firmwares. V2.01 - Will only work using the GTA method, check out Fanjita's superb website for compatibility and download links. This firmware can be upgraded to 2.50, 2.60 or 2.71 and then downgraded to 1.5 though. See below for details. V2.50 - As with V2.01 in regards to homebrew BUT this and 2.60 can now be downgraded to 1.5 using Dark_Alex's 2.50/2.60 downgrader. V2.60 - As with V2.01. Read 2.50 for downgrade details. V2.70 - No homebrew support in any shape or form at the moment other than the limited amount using the inbuilt flash player. This firmware can now be upgraded to 2.71 and then downgraded. See 2.71 below for details. V2.71 - No current proper homebrew but this firmware can now be downgraded to 1.5 on a non TA-082 motherboard with Dark_Alex's 2.71 downgrader. V2.80 - No proper homebrew as of yet and no downgrader available. V2.81 - As with 2.80. Note:- Before you attempt any of the above downgraders you need to ensure your PSP sytem board is not a TA-082. If it is THE USE OF A DOWNGRADER WILL BRICK YOUR PSP AND RENDER IT USELESS. Check out the following picture to confirm. ![]()
