Default Help! unbricking and magic memory sticks

I've been given a faulty PSP and am trying to unbrick it but have hit a wall.

Basically, turned it on and the green power light came on but nothing happened on screen. So after googling the symptoms I thought a pandora battery would help unbrick it. I bought a device from ebay which changes the battery between normal and service modes.

However, in the instructions it said that I would need some software on the memory stick, so i went back to google and I now realise I need a Magic Memory Stick.

But from what I've read so far, I need a working PSP to format and install the files on the stick. I also need to know the firmware version of the PSP. Both of these I don't have.

can i create the MMS with the card in a reader? and how significant is not knowing the firmware?

I'm sure you can put the files on the MS via a cardreader.

Yeah. The only thing is that it sometimes tells ya to take it out without exiting USB mode... dunno what that would do...

Make sure the MS is above 128MB or it won't work.
