Default PSP noobish questions ... help plz

Hi All,

Pardon my ignorance but this is my first week of owning a PSP for the very first time so bear with me if this sounds noobish. Got a few questions to ask

Q1. I checked my PSP and the system firmware is 2.60. I bought this psp from one of my colleague (it's an old one not the slim one). I own a game called "Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects". When i try to play it via UMD, there's a little icon which says "PSP Update ver 1.52". What is that for? will it update my system firmware back to 1.52?

Q2: This question relates to Q1. Assuming that my psp firmware will be downgraded from 2.60 to 1.52, will it be the case that i will be unable to play any games which are of later version?

Q3. How efficient it is to downgrade and upgrade versions for every game i play?

Q4. How can i know if i can play homebrew games on my PSP? Do i need to check something on my PSP.

Q5. What is TA-82? how do i check my psp for that?

Many thanks for listening to all this noobish talk :-) Appreciate your help guys.

1) Your psp will give an error saying the current firmware is higher than that on the UMD and so wont let you downgrade. Oh the joy if it did.

2) Yes that would be the case, this is what custom firmware is for.

3) If you have the latest firmware (custom or official) you can play any game. It does not have to be that specific firmware.

4) You have official firmware, no homebrew allowed. You can downgrade and luckily for you there is a simple way of doing it.

5) TA-082 is a patched motherboard which blocked some downgraders, not sure if it was intentional by sony but it did.

What you need to do now is:

Upgrade to 2.80 by using this link. The reason i choose this firmware is its the easiest and is compatible if you have a TA-082 motherboard.

Downgrade to 1.50 using this link and looking at the correct section titled 2.80

Upgrade to 3.52 M33-4 this is the custom firmware i was talking about. From here you can upgrade to 3.90 M33 t=which is the latest so your psp will play all games all homebrew and have alot more features.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply back Kev. Everything is very clear to me now. Just one little confusion. I have had a look at google for TA-82 as per the image (http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/4...82spot1bm3.jpg) and i can't see any such numbering but on the left side of my PSP it says IC9001. Is it a TA-082? Can this be downgradable? if yes then how? Thanks mate.

*** EDIT ***

Someone also suggested me using this link

PSP Downloads | PSP Upgrading & Downgrading AIO

Is this any good?

Im not sure about the mobo but i do know that the 2.8 downgrader sorts this anyways so it dosent really matter.

As for the suggested link... it probably all the downgraders merged into one program that detects your firmware version.

As i havent used it i cant say its ok and would suggest sticking to my tutorials.
