Well, i would recommend opening your psp up (Very simple, i assume it is out of warranty anyways) and getting a cotton bud, and just giving the contacts (Where the X/O buttons are) a wipe, then giving the buttons a good clean also.

Have a look at the psp, is the X button any lower (Even the tinyest bit) than the other 3 buttons? If so, then it could just be pressing it with the slightest touch.

Give that a go, and tell us how it goes.

If you need any help with opening up your psp, just ask

I doubt its a stuck button as it would do that at every menu screen would it not? Are you pressing any buttons on that screen or does it simply just go straight past it?

What game is it that this happens on?

I know some games you have to "highlight" the box and press X to enter your name etc, maybe you are not doing that.

Let us know what game your playing and we shall try to resolve this for you.

Good point, but then playing a game, would that not pase it all the time?

What about loading a umd movie? The start button does something then does it not? Just experiment and see if you can figure it out i guess.

Have a look at the UMD, are there any tiny scratches?

X and O are not stuck, if I press them once, they only click once. If I don't press them, they don't click. and the menu thing might be on.. any.. game. :/

Just a thought, do you have a memory card in your psp? A working one? And is it in properly?

Reason i ask is because i imagine if the psp dosent have any storage device to save to then it would automatically skip the name creation screen as it wont remember it anyways.
