Default "DarkStalkers: the Chaos Tower" review

Has anyone seen this?

This is the reason I want to buy a PSP in the first place. I've always been a fan of the 2-D fighters of yore, and the PSP handles it perfectly.

Grapics: 9/10

The 2-D sprites are gloriously high-res, with plenty of detailed animations for every character. My only quibble is that you either have a small screen with boring wall paper covering the empty spaces, or a nice wide screen effect but with warped graphics from being streched across the display. A widescreen that just expands the playing field would have been nice.

Controls: 7/10

Responsive controls put you in the sweet spot of fighting goodness, although there is no joystick support, which would have up-ed my control score by 2 points.

Gameplay: 10/10

Amzingly well balanced fighting with 18 interesting characters, everyone form the past games. Attackes are fresh, and the special moves are well thought up, although just a few of them seem pointless. Also, the special Tower mode, a fun gauntlet run through the floors of a mysterious tower with a team of three, is a fun diversion.

FINAL SCORE: 9/10

Near flawless, I recommend this to anyone as one of their first buys.

Sounds good. I was really hoping they'd port Capcom VS SNK 2, but of course that didn't happen.

Have this game, played it a lot, but selling it.
The reason is that even though I like it and the gameplay is good there is absolutely nothing of use to unlock. Just nice pictures to look at. There is no incentive at all to keep playing. Everything gets extremely tedious very quickly.
Shame on you Capcom.

well, where the game realy shines, in my opinion, is the multiplayer. It's awesome to get together with three other friends and have a 4 player tournament.
