Thumbs down I need help

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to connect a psp to a livebox(orange broadband) through wifi as my psp will not connect.
I have looked elsewhere and i seem to get the picture that you can't connect without removing all security.

I dont know anything about this livebox thing but if its a wirelss router I dont see why not. All the PSP cares about is that there is a signal strong enough for it to pick up. You just have to make sure you have the WEP Settings correct and the password if need be.

the livebox is a WiFi router from the UK cell phone network Orange. It aint good!

I had to set up my brothers for his normal PC needs and I eventually broke out a WiFi packet sniffer to see what was going on! The Livebox didn't maintain an active session for any time at all.

Having had the PSP for a few weeks now, i wouldn't really rate the Wireless performance that highly either. Sure it does what it needs to but its the regular connection and IP address acquisition process it seems to do. I don't understand why it wouldn't stay connected.

I would imagine that having both of these systems trying to sync up is a lot to ask for and removing security would probably help but not be a complete solution.

I use a Netgear DG834G router and have never had any problems with all the WiFi things like a mates Mac and Windows Mobile phone i use too.

i'm new here so hope no-ones minds a loooong first post!

TBH, WEP or WPA (in any of its guises) are all simply red-rags to the battlehardened WarDriver. If they want to hack your system, they will. WEP has been demonstrably cracked with google-y available apps in about 10 minutes (depending on traffic flow etc) and WPA2 with 256bit AES keys is the highest level commercially availabe (but not on the PSP or Livebox i think) but can take as much as 60% of the datarate in encryption overhead! so even with a (realistically unattainable) rate of 54Mbps, if 30+ of it is encryption, whats the point!!!

I genuinely feel that hiding your SSID and using MAC address filtering is as high a security level as is reasonable. Not being able to see the access point is the first layer that will prevent most casual leeching and the MAC address filtering gets around anyone actually using your bandwidth without your permission!

back to your problem tho, have you had any success with other wireless AP's? If so, it isnt your PSP, its the Livebox - my moneys on the Livebox! (but then i wont have a bad thing said about my latest toy - i luv my PSP!!)

Ha Ha! yeah, I do!!

but if i have learnt anything whilst lurking here before posting its that you dont go into dodgy territory with regards legal things like *ahem* ISO's and other dubious areas... like WiFi hacking!

in this instance, Google is a better friend to you than me......!!

yeah, you can have multiple routers to a network but they have to have some fairly complex functions and YOU have to know how to configure them.

TBH its not worth messing about with things like Proxy ARP especially on the Livebox!

if you have another router, why dont you replace the Livebox with that? or are you using the voice functions that make the Livebox 'special'?
