Default Please help find out whether to buy a PSP in Japan

Hi all,

I am in Tokyo for the weekend and am considering a PSP. I am totally new to this system, but it seems like a cool gaming console and more. I wonder if there are any pitfalls of buying a PSP in Japan, if I live in Europe.
Some specific questions I have:
Can the firmware be upgraded ?
Can I install a 'homebrew' on this?
I read somewhere already that the PSP 1000K is region free. Is this true.

Thanks guys for any help.

Regards,
Rick

i'm guessing that all psp is built the same, but with different versions. all psp is upgradable whether it manualy through the usb cord or using the upgrade feature on the psp and homebrew apps,esc.. depends on the upgrade
