Default IR Port?

Hi,

What does the IR port on top of the PSP device is used for?

The instructions of the PSP doesn't mention it at all...

Thanks!

Yes, the black oval, just right to the L button.
What is the purpose of it?
I don't think they made it just for homebrews, do you?
What's it's original purpose?

You my friend are wrong...Sony has yet to use the IR port in anything...since kernal mode is possible on 1.50 programmers can use that to their whim...but it isnt for the Internet....if you get on the Internet for a long time you'll notice the left side of the PSP heating up....that's where the WLAN is located, that's how you get on the Internet...

Yep, Ryders got it.

That's what makes me beleive that there won't be a PSP2 anytime soon because SONY still hasn't put the IR port to work yet. My guess is that it's for using the PSP as a wireless remote for PS3.

I kinda doubt it....the IR Port sends information way to slow to be anything more than sending pix and controlling the T.V....but if you meant like pressing X to start/pause a song playing on the PS3 then yeah I agree with you....but as in controlling a whole game then no...I'm pretty sure SonyTM will use the PSP as a rear view mirror for the PS3 using the Ad Hoc feature...

There's no way it'd be used for the PS3, the PS3 is going to use wifi, and because of that the PSP and PS3 will communicate through wifi. So far it has absolutly no use at all, to my knowledge. Sony will think of something to use it for eventually, maybe they'll make a FW that has a remote built into it or something.
