As far as we know, no.
Although some new phones do have a wifi connection. This could be used, it just depends on how the phone is programmed. The PSP has no bluetooth or wired connection capable of connecting a modem and no software to allow you to run it

No, I'm pretty sure you can't I found out that the reason that the phones get internet anywhere is because they have a special type of internet card(forgot the name, but it's 4 letters long), but if they made something that would enable the PSP to get internet from anywhere, I'd definitally get it within a few days of when I heard about it. That would be so cool to be out in the middle of nowhere and still be able to go online with your PSP. And who cares if they don't like your laptop, as long as it doesn't get stolen or smashed it'd be fine.

Ok, let me clarify what I want to do.
I want to find out if I can connect a PSP to any type of modem that will allow me to access the net on the PSP. I have a mobile phone that isnt wifi so I cant use that. So do I need to use a wifi phone as a modem or is there another way. Its not a case of work liking or not liking my laptop, I'm not allowed to take one in. If the boss see it Im in trouble, so it will stay locked away until they go home. |

only way to get internet on your psp is with a wireless router, they MAY have one in your work but if they do it will probably be protected by a WEP code, you can't use any phone or any modem to do it, only a wireless router.
take your PSP in, goto network settings>infrastructure> new connection, go right, hit SCAN, if a connection comes up with no security you can use it, otherwise, NO. do some work!

OK, ere we go with some tech details.
Mobile phones use either GPRS (old teck 28k max) or CDMA if you have a 3g phone (about 300k) GPRS will give you a modem speed connection CDMA something more like a slow broadband. HOWEVER, this is from the PHONE to the OPERATOR. To use a mobile from a device like a PC/Palmtop, you need :- 1. A way to connect the device to the phone (serial cable, USB cable, Bluetooth, irda infra-red port) The PSP has a USB port but the firware on the PSP means it can only operate as a USB storage device. As far as I know, nothing in the PSP uses the irda port. 2. Drivers that can operate the phone as a modem There is nothing in the PSP firmware to do this. Someone could write a homebrew app but they would need to write driver software so I doubt it. So basically the answer is no because there is no way to connect the phone to the PSP On the horison, we have phones with built in Wifi. THese are ment to switch to using VOIP when near a Wifi access point rather than the normal mbile signal. So pretty useless at the mo. What we need is someone to take one of these phones a turn it into a Wifi bridge. This is however a long way off

I thought phones used EVDO... I don't know though, that might just be laptops, that'd be cool if they had that for the PSP. For those who don't know what EVDO is, here's part of the Wikipedia definition.
Code:
1x Evolution-Data Optimized, abbreviated as EV-DO or 1xEV-DO and often EVDO, is a wireless radio broadband data standard adopted by many CDMA mobile phone service providers in Japan, Korea, the Czech Republic, Russia, Latvia, Romania, Portugal, Brazil, Israel, the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Venezuela, Angola, Mexico, Norway and Puerto Rico. It is standardized by 3GPP2, as part of the CDMA family of standards. 1xEV-DO is pronounced "Wun-Ex E-Vee-Dee-Oh". It is commonly referred in the industry as DO ("Dee-Oh").
