Default Debate: PSP vs DS

i'm quite impressed with the constant rivalry between fellow gamers between the psp and the ds and i think this is the perfect place to settle this quarrel to a point. i know psp gamers have the advantage because, obviously, this is a psp forum but i know there are people out there supporting the ds to stop psp gamers in their tracks. but enough with the introduction of this topic and on with the debate.

Rules:
- you must remember this is just a debate and you shouldn't take any offence to any of the messages.
- there is no right or wrong answers so you are free to any of your thoughts or any guesses of future features of either handheld.
- finally, you must remember this is to bring the best of both worlds closer together, not to create a greater conflict.

well, LET THE DEBATE BEGIN! =D

One, the PSP and the DS are targeted to different people. Two, read the name of this forum, who do you think is going to win? Duh.

I agree with PeeEssPee, the PSP is targeted at a different audience. Nintendo is known for catering to the younger audience, while Sony has made it's success in the game industry by catering to the teen/young adult audience. I think they are both excellent systems for the audience they are trying to appeal to. Having said that...This is a PSP forum! The DS stands NO chance!

Those two people who voted DS are the two people who are not Sony fanboys.

The PSP will prove to be the better handheld hands down just like the PS2 has blown away the GC.

People say that the PSP has flaws but the biggest flaw the DS has involves it's design-the dual screen. IMO it's absurd. Watching two screens at one time is like watching two TV's at one time. It's impossible to concentrate on both. Screen size (and resolution) is very important in a handheld. To anyone boasting about the DS I ask you, would you rather have two 20" TV's (the DS) or one 40" TV (the PSP) ?

I won't get into how lousy the gaming lineup is for the DS because that is too subjective but Nintendo followers would buy anything with the name Nintendo on it. Nintendo blew it buy not enabling the GC to play DVD's or by making online games (one or two doesn't count) and they are blowing it by making a handheld with two small screens.

29 years of videogaming experience tells me one thing. Once the PSP hits North America, it will outsell the DS the same way the PS2 outsold the GC.

Agreed. The PSP rings the death knoll of Nintendo's stranglehold of the handheld market - whether this is a good or bad thing is for you to decide. Hopefully Nintendo will sell enough DS's over the next year to make their next gen handheld a worthwhile venture for them as a lack of competition is not good for the comsumer. However, the problem for them is that their next gen handheld will probably only have the spec the PSP has now so they will have to rely on their loyal fanbase to see them through the next two years and that won't be enough IMO.

I never had any other portable console but own a GC and a PS2, both are great. I saw a GBA and a DS but they are steam driven compared to the PSP. To be fair I dont believe that the DS is Nintendos rival to the PSP - they wouldnt be where they are if they were that lacking in technological foresight. PSP is brilliant. Nintendos next generation will also be.
