is there anyway u can change the buttons around eg
o button 2 the x button cos i've got a jap psp.
i don't want 2, i've got used 2 it, i just want 2 know

Yes, there is a homebrew app that does this but you need to be on either V1.0 or V1.5 firmware.

Doesn't it switch the buttons around if you update with another regions firmware release?

Don't think so. I upgraded my Japanese V1.0 PSP with the US 1.5 update and my buttons remained reversed.
