So I purchased a new PSP fresh from the box only about 2 weeks ago. I turned it on one day and already there are two dead pixels, two tiny blue ones in about the center right of the screen.
I've got a few family relatives who enjoy playing it for Lumines so I have no clue if they may have done anything to it, although I made myself very clear that no harm should come to it or their will be consequences (of what I'm not sure  ). I haven't questioned them about this, yet. Anyways, does anyone know what exactly causes dead pixels? I know dropping it does, but I don't think anyone dropped it. My relatives would have notified me if they did. This might sound silly, but I play a lot of Lumines, and I mean A LOT. I wouldn't think all those bright lights of Lumines going off constantly would hurt the pixels, would it? Are a couple of dead pixels common among you guy's Sony PSP's? Should I consider returning it or do you think this same thing will happen again? I'm not going to bother returning if it is just going to happen again. What kills me is the pixels weren't dead to begin with. SOMETHING happened to cause this. This kind of thing doesn't just happen on its own.... or does it? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hmm, okay so I just read this http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/03...s_6121092.html at Gamespot. So dead pixels are very much common in LCD screens and thus, not considered a malfunction. Why return it for repair then if I'm just going to turn around and probably get another PSP back with another pixel or two dead?
I've been searching a lot around these forums and it seems two dead pixels are common. What are you guy's views on all this? Should I return my PSP or stick with it?

I suggest you to return it and DOUBLE CHECK the new one before you leave the store. Just put in your charged battery and look closer. Dead pixels are pretty noticable if you know what you watching at. They should stand out. That's what I did. My first one had 2 dead pixels. I noticed 'em as soon as I turned PSP on. Two red dots. But color may vary. So look carefully when the screen just lit up - there should be black screen with "sony entertainment blah blah" letters. If you won't notice any unusually colored dots - keep it. Even if you will find dead pixels later, just because you didn't notice them first time - keep it. I don't think they will bother you alot.

Okay so it looks like two or three dead pixels is common amongst all your PSP's as well, that is good to hear then that I'm not the only one
From what I've read from a few of you guys and others, I'm actually very fortunate. My dead pixels are a rather blah blue so they don't stand out too much. Okay, anyways, I'll just stick with it. I'm not going to worry about it. Besides, if I were to trade in for a new PSP, it probably just get dead pixels also, as cscott mentioned. Thanks everyone.

I now have my 2nd psp and it has no dead pixels at all (i am sure, i tried to notice them). The first one i had didn't have any either. But something happened to it i dont know what it was. A long line came down the side of the screen that had like a rainbowing effect. Anyways gamestop took it back. If anyone here knows what that line was let me know.
Later, TJ
