Default Dropping connection during multiplayer (Burnout Legends)

Anyone else experience this problem? We are playing 2 person on multiplayer Burnout Legends, Ad Hoc, Automatic channel, and no matter who 'runs' the game, it drops within a few seconds of starting the game, yet each of us runs their own game independently. We tried different channels, confirmed we each have the most recent OS/firmware, and just can't figure out why it's doing that. Anyone else? We are about 4 feet away from one another, with a clear shot machine to machine - is that too far?

Don't use automatic. Choose a specific channel (make sure it doesn't conflict with your router's channel)
