Thanks for the "helpful" comments. Spoke to Sony, they can repair it, but it will take 3-6 weeks and cost £135. May as well buy a new one!

Anyone want to buy a US BRICKED PSP with no worthwhile warranty?!

there is a person on this forum who takes psp's apart and sells it for spare's he might be interested, obviously you wont be able to sell the broken thing but the screen and buttons he could, and someone wants the power switch also, i cant remember what post it was but have a look round im sure you will find it.
