Default Atrac Faq (Please keep this bumped I don't want to repeat)

Ok I am the guy to come to for this kinda stuff
This is what you do, are you ready? Cause it is kinda complicated.
1. Download the Sony Connect player from www.connect.com. This program can convert MP3's to Atrac3 or Atrac3 Plus. It is also needed to comunicate with the PsP.
2. The Atrac format is only able to play on the memory stick that are the Duo kind, not Pro or Pro duo. I repeat you cannot play Atrac files on a Pro Duo memory stick only on the plain Duo kind.
3.Hook up your PSP and put it in USB mode.
4. Open Sonicstage (the sony connect player) then select the mp3 that you want to convert to Atrac3, go up to tools and convert. I have found that if you use Atrac3 Plus format at 64 kbps it still sounds damn good. I am no audio head but you shouldn't notice and loss in quality unless you are really trying.
5. Once the file is converted you then delete the that mp3 file from the play list not the computer ( it will ask you what you want to do if you just select it and hit delete).
6. Import the Atrac3 file into Sonicstage, it should have a .omg file extension.
7. Select the transfer tab and from that select the item on the list that is your PSP it will be labeled Memory Stick(PSP)
8. Then just highlight the file and then click the transfer button.
9. You are done! sit down, drink a glass of lemonade or have a beer if you are old enough ( I recomend a Guinness Daught in a bottle). Chill out and listen to your music.

Any questions just IM or PM me and I will get back to you.

I think they are exactly the same in terms of bitrate/size, but I'll favor the mp3 because most if not all music files are already in mp3 format and because mp3s have a more flexable choice of bitrates.

you shouldn't need a driver disk because usb is plug and play, only special things like camera's or printers requires a disk, and sometimes you don't even need it. I have seen some places saying that you need to have windows xp as your OS but I have yet to confirm that because I have XP and so does everyone else I know. I don't have a driver disk for my usb cord and Wal-Mart is selling just the cord with no software for 5 bucks. So I am not sure what the problem would be. Maybe try putting your psp in usb mode if you didn't (you have to leave it on the usb screen, if you exit it, you exit usb mode) also try formating your memory card while it is in the psp, and also the psp should show up as a removable drive in your computer. If all this is working correctly then you should just be able to drag and drop the files to the correct folders on your psp.
