Default Homebrew bad for PSP??

Hey I have a friend who has a friend who works for microsoft. (follow me?) Anyways the guy who works for microsoft, he's a developer I guess and he's looked into the whole PSP Hombrew scene and according to him, homebrew apps such as emulators can eventually f*ck up your PSP because I guess the PSP isn't programmed to peform those certain feats. Also that's why they've upgraded a couple of firmwares since 1.0 because Sony found errors in the system. Now I'm just the messenger. I'm not saying this is a fact but I'm posting this because I want it confirmed. I'd like to hear your thoughts...

think of it as a new program it runs, if its capable of running without physically modding the PSP it should be ok

If that was the case, if you install the new MSN 7.5 with its new....nothing feature, that could mess up your computer, cos its only made for word processing, the Xbox, you can get a media player on that, that wont destroy it, so why would it do the PSP?

what would he care anyhow, theyre all getting rowdy on saying the 360 will be hack-proof, but thats no chance either,

They should use their "hack-proof" programs to remove all the Windows & Serial downloads from google

Home brew can damage areas of the PSP. Especially when it comes to the memory stick. It's not because it's homebrew as such but because even the best programmers make mistaks, or the windows term, "undocumented features".
Whats worse are the hacks for firmware and pirate games. They deliberetly mess around with delicate areas.
It doesn't matter what the system is ment for, as long as you write good code you won't damage the system.
End of they day, it's a risk, so you gotta ask yourself. Is the app worth it

Well unless they program you download is trying to screw up your PSP on purpose. I don't know what your microsoft friend is talking about, but I don't know why he's trying to "help" sony out... (Does he have any details on why it would screw up your PSP?)

PS: That's what big corps want you to think...

Take it from me. Your friend talks a crock of sh*t. The only homebrew function that *might* harm the PSP is the overclocking of the CPU to 333. However, the PSP's CPU is designed to run at this frequency so I would personally not refer to this as overclocking but rather the 233/266 options as underclocking to increase battery time.

Well I sure as hell personally hope you guys are right about homebrew not harming my psp. I'll take your word for it. Thanks

Also my friend who recently updated his psp to 2.0 was showing me all the cool features it has, one particular feature I really liked was the custom wallpaper background....Now since I have a 1.5, what's the best homebrew program out there that will let me change my background?

PSPersonalize. Check the directions. If you do it right, you'll like the results.
