Jap. PSP is different from everyother because of the stuff it can play. Movies and some games are region coded, so if you aren't from that region, you're porked in that aspect of things. And no, I'm sorry to say, but you cannot upgrade your USA or English PSP to a Jap. one with a firmware.

JAPAN PSP and GAMES:
O is the primary button for the home screen and menus, X is the cancel button they are Region 2 encoded for UMD movies USA PSP and GAMES: X is the primary button O is the cancel button they are Region 1 encoded for UMD movies EUROPEAN PSP and GAMES: X is the primary button Triangle is the cancel button they are Region 2 encoded for UMD movies at present all games are not region coded (although they say so on the box), so all games run in all consoles untill sony decide they want to region code them. all firmwares are the same, just different versions for each console with appropriate language packs so basicaly the only real difference is the button config (that gets confusing when using usa and eu games on a jap console!?!?) and the UMD movie region coding, other than that there identical!

Also, the original Japanese batch of PSP's had Sharp LCDs on them which were generally viewed as being better than the Samsung ones on all the subsequent models.
