i've just noticed that all of my games are region 1 coded. all have that symbol on the back. i thought all games were compatible with all psps from around the world. atleast that's what everyone has been saying. i'm not having a problem, just thought i'd bring it up for info or discussion.

I'm serious, there is some way they profit from this. (the psps in japan cost less, but there umd videos cost more) so I dont think they'll fix the region code thing
the region codes are in place because of legal restrictions on digital movies, that's why there are regions on dvd's in the first place. Different countries have different rules and standards on what is acceptable to be put on a dvd/umd/whatever, eg Pron from hong kong will ALWAYS be censored, no exceptions. The regions are there to attempt to prohibit people from watching stuff which might break local laws.

Personally i think it's a bit dumb to put restrictions on a portable console, the games are region free for the simple reason that people play on the move, be it on the bus to work, or on their hols to other countries. However if the law says sony has to restrict movie usage then what can ya do?

click on the system settings button (between the camera icon and the clock icon)

click on the second option down and a list will appear on the right hand side, i don't know if it says each language in their individual languages but english is the second one down

games have a region code cos of the potential to restrict them in future firmware releases, until that dreadful moment they're sole purpose is to tell u what country they come from (useful for me as i was in Hong Kong for the last month and they sell PSP games from all countries where they've been released).

what about asian countries like Hong Kong and Singapore ? what code will the psp be using ??? dun tell me its code 3? then seems like buying jap set is more worth it ..........sigh
been to HK, they sell psp's from everywhere, not caring what region it is, if u wanna buy from there then make absolute sure to ask for a specific region psp, I got a japanese region 2 cos i live in the uk, it's you're own personal preference (hope umd's work when they come out, as much as everyone says they're the same region, japanese dvds don't always work on uk players...)

oh another thing, if u buy from HK u can choose which firmware u want. I figured to get the earliest one available cos of homebrew and if it sucked i can always upgrade.

HK rulz!

Yes, it will. Any game no matter what country will work on any psp. It's the movies that dont work on every PSP.
