Default Please Help (Memory storage issues)

First let me Apologise if this has been posted before but i've looked through the message boards & cant find an answer to this problem...

First let me explain which hardware i'm running: I'm have a stock psp slim running software version 4.05. I've also purchased from a reputable retailer a scandisk 8gb Memory Stick Pro Duo In order to store movies etc (as i've had terrible problems with sellers on ebay selling fake hacked 1gb sticks & passing them off as 4 or 8gb sticks).

My issue is this, when uploading movies to my memory stick using psp xploder movie player V2 The program tells me that the memory stick is full when in actual fact there is only 3.38GB of info saved in the 100MNV01 root file & 2.37mb of (game saves) in the PSP save data file. Leaving 4GB empty.

I have looked at the drive through (my computer) & it's only showing it as half full. I have since tried another older 2gb sony MS pro duo card & it basically did the same thing (only filled half the stick before showing as full).

I have noticed that when formatting these cards that the rest of the space is taken up by photo & music folders but even after deleting these folders the space does'nt re distribute.

Would anybody know if this is a formatting issue or a program issue, & is there a way to format a pro duo with only a root & movie folder meaning that i can save a full 8gb ???

Any advice would be most helpfull.

Thanks in advance.

Try manually Transfering The Files across. Maybe it is the software you are using.

Yeah the folders are empty, I've tried manually transferring mp4 files accross & even though the psp recognises that memory has been taken up it wont show or play these files. I've even tried manually renaming the files to M4V10001,mp4 etc before transferring them accross but this has the same result.

What is MSPformat ?

Formatting your Memory Stick

You will need a program called "mspformat" download this here: Download Here save the file to your "Desktop"

once you have download it, open the rar archive.

You will find a folder called "mspformat" - double click that and then you will find a file called "mspformat.exe" - This is what we want! Drag this file -mspformat.exe to your "desktop" and we can begin.

Now
To format the memory stick, you may have to use something called the "command prompt" ... This can be found on your start menu.

Click "Start"> then "Programs"> then "Accessories" > then "Command Prompt"... A black rectangular box should pop up with a white flashing cursor. Here is what it looks like on my computer. Yours should be similar

Quote:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.
C:\Documents and Settings\High Roller>_
Now type with out the quotes "cd desktop" and it should look like this:

Quote:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.
C:\Documents and Settings\High Roller>cd desktop

C:\Documents and Settings\High Roller\Desktop>_
OK. Now, find out what drive letter your PSP is... It will be either E:, F: or G:. Find out which letter the PSP is and remember it!

Lets say this letter is "F"
At the command prompt, type "mspformat f" without the quotes

it should look like this

Quote:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.
C:\Documents and Settings\High Roller>cd desktop
C:\Documents and Settings\High Roller\Desktop>mspformat f
You are about to format the drive f.
All data will be lost. Do you want to continue? [Y]_
Type "Y" and the memory stick will be formatted.

O.K thanks,

I'll give this a bash, i've also posted on the xploder site to see if there program only actually recognises memory sticks up to 4gb which would also explain why this might be happening, i re formatted a 2gb stick & all was good with that one!

HI Again,

I've formatted the disk as you said & it all went ok unfortunately the xploder program still only shows this stick to have: 6680736KB (3594)MB Free space.

I reckon this could either be an issue with their program or the (8gb Sandisk memory Stick Pro Duo) but as i bought it from mymemory.com.(who seem to be reputible retailers).

Im a bit worried as all the signs are pointing to this being a 4gb stick hacked to say that its 8gb when read by the computer, so i'm going to get on to them too.

Thanks for all of your help. ooh whilst im on how do i manually copy & paste files in to this memory stick ? when doing this in the past even when thre mp4 is converted in to pspmp4 format the psp wont recognise it even though it regognises that its taken space on the stick.

Kind regards
