Default I downloaded custom firmware onto my psp.

I just put CFW on my psp. I put it in PSP > GAME > UPDATE. Then go to my menu on my psp, the game menu. Then I go down to my memory stick I click start the application it says it called ' PSP Update ver 4.01 ' I run this, and I get the error ' The game could not be started. (80020148)

Can anyone help me?

In order to modify your PSP firmware and Enable homebrew and other delights PANDORA BATTERY is required to make the Custom firmware update run.
These can be bought online for a relitively small fee
