Hi! I'm new around here...
|
Hiya,
I went to a Game outlet this weekend and finally had the chance to hold and play on a PSP! I desperately want one now, so should I buy one from Ebay (I've found several Jap PSP's in the UK with two games for £210) or shall I wait until September for the UK release? What are the pro's and con's? I'm guessing that I will have a better warranty etc if I wait and buy the UK one from a proper shop. Cheers Matt |

Pro's of Japanese PSP
- You get it sooner. - Speaking from a homebrew point of view, there is a (very small) possibility of getting a V1.0 and a slightly better possibility of getting a 1.5 (All Euro PSP's are going to definitely be V2.0). - You will actually be paying less than you will when it comes out in this country (providing it doesn't get stopped at customs and you end up paying the import tax). - UK UMD movies will work as Japan has the same region as we do. Con's of Japanese PSP - Effectively no warranty - if it turns faulty you are screwed and will have to pay for the repair. - Er......American movies won't play on it (but that applies to the UK PSP's too). - 'X' and 'O' buttons are reversed in the menu (I have a Japanese PSP and have gotten used to this). Personally at this point if you are not bothered about homebrew I would wait for the UK release and you will have the advantage of the warranty. If you want homebrew though, you will need to import and ask about the firmware level, making sure it is V1.0 or V1.5.

Homebrew is the ability to use homemade software on your PSP that you can download for free. This can an emulator, game or application. From a personal point of view, my PSP being able to use homebrew is as important as it being able to run commercial games. Not everyone feels the same way though, hence the various debates about the pitfalls and advantages of upgrading to the V2.0 firmware that exist on this forum.

No, the other way around mate. Browsing the internet is now possible on V2.0. However, the importance of this to me plaes in comparison to being able to play Final Fantasy VI on the Snes9x emulator for example.

Hi! I'm new around here...

So just to be clear, the internet access (via wireless points) is only available on V2.0?
Can you tell me if home brews are only working on V1.5 or lower because of the system, or just because none have been created for V2.0 yet? Many thanks Matt |
