Default PSP Joystick Help!

I have a PSP-1006 that I bought on my trip to Indonesia back in August. (I believe it was one of the larger game stores in Mangga Dua MAL) So after 4 months the Joystick started acting all buggy. It would move in the opposite direction and sometimes not move at all. It is been like that until now and I have no clue whats wrong with it. My Dad brought back a new joystick from Malaysia and when we put it in the problems remained there. We couldn't see any dust inside so I have no clue what is wrong. One thing to note about the original joystick is that the cap didn't come off. If anyone could help me with this problem, please do.
