Smile Questions about the PSP

First let me just say I have no clue about a PSP except "the basics" so please don't flame.

1. Are games saved to your memory stick, internal memory, or onto the UMD itself?
2. What would be the best size memory stick for me if I wanted to have 10 or so songs and some pictures?
3. There are official demos for games but they need to be downloaded and put on the PSP via USB cable. Must I mod or downgrade my PSP to do so?
4. Is the web browser free and is the online for games free?
5. Can I use the access point in my house for online or can I only use it in a wifi hotspot (i.e. McDonalds)?

BTW I'm getting my PSP from my friend so I'm not sure whether it's updated or anything.

1) They are saved onto the memory card, so it would be considered removable storage.
2) 512mb would be enough for you.
3) No need to downgrade for demos, much the opposite, you need the latest firmware for new demos. Although id suggest custom firmware (click my sig). Also if you wanted demos then maybe a 1 or 2 gig mem card would be better.
4) Web browser is free, online games free? I dont understand. All you pay for is your internet connection from your home or the costs to use wifi hotspots unless you found a free one.
5) If you have a wireless router in your house then you can use that.

Let us know what firmware it is and we can get you on custom firmware to unlock the psp's full potential.

Modding the psp always has some risk of bricking, (making your psp unusable). However with the use of a pandora baatery you can unbrick a psp. But as long as you follow instructions its a slim chance of bricking.

Some themes are version specific, so its best to find out what themes are safe to install with your firmware. Historically, custom firmware has much greater ability to alter the appearance of the XMB than official firmware does. This greater abilty to alter themes comes from the fact you can access the flash memory (internal) which is approximately 25mb in size and stores the firmware (operating system). Understandably, the risk is clear, altering these files can result in a brick. Its important you get the correct theme. Gameboots (aka coldboot) also require custom firmware i believe, my knowledge is limited on this area though. some forums specialise in this. There are also some good guides on Youtube.

Peace

It is not that hard to install Custom gameboots and such. I just installed bout 5 diff things to the flash memory and kept changing them. I only semi bricked once. It is pretty simple if you are not worrying too much about what could happen if you do it wrong. All you have to do is in folder options on hte pc you gotta click a couple of buttons to display the files you need (hidden operating system files) and then you can alter your psp as much as you want.

If ye want any help with doing anything PM me, ask in a thread or add me on MSN if you have it

I am sure there are plenty of people here who cna help ye anyways

Thanks again however I won't be getting the PSP until the 27th but still good to know that I will be getting one.

Edit: This is probably one of the best, if not the best, PSP forum around. Mostly because it's almost always active. Plus the nice members.

One last question: The very first game I get will be DBZ: SB2 (a fighting game) because I like DBZ and I need a fighting for on-the-go. What would be the second game I should get? It doesn't have to be specific but like what genre should I get? I like fighting games, non-Nascar racing games, shooters, and action adventure games.

Ummm, GTA is probably one of the most popular psp games, however this takes some getting into, not just a turn on for 5 minutes type of game.

I always say it but i thought heatseeker was a great game. You could try some sports games like pro evo, maybe even sega rally, or ridge racer. Its all opinion really.

Yes, if you like GTA, you should get the Vice City!

Like the other two already said, I would suggest GTA, it has a little bit of everything you mentioned you like (driving, fighting, shooting, action adventure etc...). Plus you can now get them on the cheap, each of them only costs around $20 I believe.
