Default Memory Stick slot not working - what to do?

I bought a used PSP which is running FW 3.51.

I cannot get it to recognize a memory stick. I have tried many, I even went and bought a new, Sony branded, 2GB card - didn't work.

Is the slot broken? Anything I can do to fix it? Anyone think upgrading the FW will help?

OK, so apparently I cannot upgrade without the card.

So, now what?

go to the playstation website. Navigate to the very bottom of the page. Click on PSP help and support. then go and find the bit where you can talk to someone via chat. you can then type in a querie and they will ell you what to do. I used it earlier today and the service was reasonable for me.

Hmmm. Website says that "Chat support is only being offered for the PLAYSTATION®3 system".

Not sure why. It worked perfectly fine for me. You could try and get the chat support for the ps3 and then just ask about psp instead. It might have just been the time that you tried though...
