Unhappy broken psp - help!

hey,
my psp is broken and i cant figure out how to fix it, or whats wrong with it!
first of all, my umds wont work (movie or games, tried them all). after i put in the umd, it takes 5-10 minutes before i get an error message saying the disc/umd could not be read. secondly, with or without a umd in, my psp goes slow. it takes a few seconds to process folders (enter them, such as music, videos etc.) and sometimes i get a blank screen involving ONLY my background, animated yes. everything else disspaears (including the folders)

does anybody know whats wrong with it? im willing to replace an item, but i hope i get the right feedback so i dont make mistakes.
but it would be cool to be able to fix it myself, so if there is a way, PLEASE let me know. Thanks, cya.

First of all, I just need to clarify a few things. Are you using Official Sony Firmware or Custom firmware?- for example 3.90 or 3.90 m33. this makes a huge difference in diagnosing ur problem. Have you dropped it? Been making cakes with it?
PSP's don't just start behaving irrationally, i've put mine thru some very testing times. Hope I/we can help...

But it sounds completely buggered

Peace

There could be a problem with some connection in the umd reader area. If it is CFW (M33) You may have changed some settings in the VSH menu. Tell us your firmware and then we will be able to help you further.
