4) Will I be able to play multi-player games with UK PSP owners via wi-fi LAN?

5) Will it matter what combination of region PSP and software for multi-player LAN gaming?
1) buy a wireless lan and your psp should atomatically get the signal.

2) The DS doesnt have internet access like the psp, but yes it will be free meaning no monthly charge providing you have an internet service.

3) Yes you can play online anywhere!

4) The psp has its own wifi card that allows you to play head on with another psp-without needing a router or any equipment.

5) if you have US region games you can play against UK region, and UK region games can play with US. I dont beleive US region can play with Japan Region, but UK Region will be able to play with Japan region because there in the same region.

When you're near a hotspot, do you get an option or icon on your psp you can press to acces the internet?

The only way you know you're around a hotspot is 1) it says that you're in a hotspot, most places that have them say they have them or 2) you can always walk into places turn on your PSP and scan, if it doesn't detect any then there isn't but if it does then bam there ya go. But most connections require some sort of fee or a password.
