Default Li-ion Battery Info

Alright, I've been wondering about the lithium ion battery's life and I found some stuff on the internet.

With the battery being the PSP's weak point, I wanted to know if there was a way to stop the battery from getting worse. This info applies to all things that uses li ion batteries. (Laptops, Cell phones, PSPs, etc.)

The lithium ion battery has no memory effect. (The capacity will NOT get smaller if you leave the battery alone for extended periods without discharging it) That means that you can store it at full charge capacity. On contrary, you should NOT fully discharge the battery Frequently. It will shorten the life of it. You should store the li ion battery at around 40% capacity when you are not using it.

Optimal use would be to store at 40%, charge and use, then store again at 40%. Every 30 charge/discharge cycles, you should fully discharge your li ion battery to make the digital meter accurate again.

Hope this info saves you a few bucks on batteries!

Hey cheers for this... I was interested to see that my local(ish) Toys-R-Us was selling Sony batteries for the PSP... and also power supplies too.

I wonder if Sony is jumping the gun to stock up knowing which is the weak link in the PSP.

Which is quite apt'd as I was in exchanging my power supply as it had gone down But all is well now.

Again thanks for the heads up concerning extending the life of the battery.

Regards

Well, I've heard people saying that Sony is making a new (longer) battery that's going to be available next year.

Or you could get a bigger external battery that lasts longer.

The batteries were just like the oem ones and could not hold a bigger charge.

Must admit i have liked the idea of having an external battery pack/charger for the long hauls I do back and forth to the UK. As I cannot sleep on a plane having the PSP is a god send and so much more compact than lugging a laptop about too.

I wonder if anyone has one of these external units and could do a review for us all :?:

Maybe. I'd just get a normal battery. With all the things I do on the PSP, my battery seems to last around 6 hours. (Which is a lot spread out from time away from the psp on the plane)

this is my first post and before you sigh and roll your eyes, i have done some extensive searching on the web and in this forum for my question and havent quite found what im looking for.
anyway....i plan on purchasing a psp in the next few days. i am a little concerned about the infamous "psp battery life." i plan on taking my psp with me to work (bus driver and sometimes have extended breaks with nothing to do) and dont want to worry about running out of juice. is buying a second battery the best idea? or what should i consider the pelican psp power brick?
http://www.pspworld.com/sony-psp/rev...iew-000415.php

i found it interesting that "the capacity will NOT get smaller if you leave the battery alone for extended periods without discharging it." so i could have a back up battery sitting for a few days, take with me to work, and have a full battery, correct?
what kind of charging time are you looking at using the "store at 40%, charge and use" method?

thanks to all for contributing to this kick a$$ site.......

Since you're a bus driver, I suggest that while you're driving around, you keep a car charger plugged into your PSP, and when you go onto one of your extended breaks, your PSP will be fully charged, and you'll play it/watch movies/listen to music, and then when you start driving again, plug it in again, and it will be fully charged for your next break.

If your bus doesn't have a little car charger port, then I guess buy an extra battery, and a charger that charges the batteries themselves without the need of a PSP to charge the battery in. It would charge both batteries at the same time, and then when you take both with you, you would just replace the battery when it dies, and just charge them both when you get home. I'll post the link to the multiple battery charger thing if I find it.

Here's another nifty gadget. http://www.psp411.com/show/product/2...l_Battery.html will help to extend the battery life, it's cheaper than the extra battery, and it looks cooler.

thanks for the info FP....unfortunately our buses dont come equipped with any kind of power source. i was thinking about purchasing the logitech playgear amp so i can listen to tunes on the go.
http://www.pspworld.com/sony-psp/rev...iew-000580.php

right now i'm hauling around a bulky boombox......space is a premium and the logitech amp might be a good fit. i dont know...maybe one fully charged battery would be enough for a little gaming with quite a bit of music play but i would like to have a backup just in case......

Well, it's 8-9 hours of music gameplay on one charge, so if that's all you're going to do, then only one battery will do. But, I do suggest a 1GB memory card, so you can have enough music to keep you occupied.

Get headphones, those amps suck up more power than the Internet.
(I suggest these. http://shopper-zdnet.com.com/Sony_St...html?tag=pl&q=)

yeah...i've done much research on the memory stick/song capacity bit.

do you have first hand experience with the cyber external battery or the pelican power brick? ive always been a little skeptical of "generic" gaming accessories....
