I just got my PSP about a week ago and having a very tough time finding a good all-around program to convert .avi movies. Some progs do a good job of audio, but then the video stinks. I can't seem to find one that does it all well.
*Nero Recode- the video comes out pretty pixelated and sometimes, the video looks like it's almost in fast motion. This happens even when I put it to the highest video "quality" settings. The audio is great though. *Xilisoft- There is no "PSP mode" for 320X240 conversion. There IS an MP4 mode for that, but my PSP will not play the converted file. Xilisoft only will do 480X272 or 368X202. The audio is great here too. *Win AVI converter- I tried this on the .avi that Nero couldn't handle and the video came out looking great. Unfortunately, the audio volume was very low. I don't think WIN AVI can handle 5.1 sound very well...only 2 channel. So basically...this is a cry for help. I am also confused over aspect ratio's and what to use. I put a 480X272 .avi on my PSP and it looks stretched and not natural. How do you know if you should convert a particular AVI to 320X240 or 368X202? I have not found very comprehensive information concerning this dilemma. Thank you in advance for any and all help. I realize this may sound redundant to those of you who already know about these issues. |

Thanks for the link and info...I could not get that program to work last night but I will try again.
What about Sony Media Manager? Is it any good? Additionally, is there a good guide to aspect ratio's and what screen size to put avi's in? Also, when I converted an avi with Nero Recode at 320X240, the PSP allowed me FOUR different zoom modes when playing it. But when I converted an avi with other programs at 368X208, only TWO zoom modes were available. Are the added zoom modes a function of the PSP and the avi being in 320X240, or did the Nero program itself allow for that? |

PSP video 9 is good, but it tends to be quite slow in conversion. I use both PSPV9 and PSP video express as its lightning fast for when im in a rush and dont have 2 hours to spare for conversion. However it is a stripped down free version of the retail software made my the same company. That said, its still highly functional, and as i said - fast.

Thanks High Roller...I will check it out.
I am still really confused about what resolutions should be used to convert certain avi's. I tried converting a 4:3 avi to 480X272 but I still get black bars on the sides. I thought 480X272 made the movie fill the whole screen, no? Also, I only get 2 zoom modes on my PSP with 480X272 movies and only 2 with 368X202. Do you only get to use the 4 zoom modes on your PSP with 320X240 content???? Somehow that doesn't seem right. |

You might as well follow the steps below:
1. Download a conversion program. Let's take Wondershare video to PSP converter for example( have been using it). You can download it from its official site. 2. Run it, click “Add” button to import your .avi files, and then click “Start” to start the conversion. The default settings work perfect. 3. After the conversion is finished, connect your PSP to PC, and follow the steps below: a. Create a folder named "MP_ROOT" in PSP memory stick; b. Create a "Video" folder inside that folder c. Then copy your MP4 file to this folder Or just turn to this software, which has a built-in tool called PSP Movie Manager. It can help you transfer PSP MPEG4 videos between your PSP and your computer without manually renaming PSP MPEG4 files. |
