Hi Everyone
I'm looking for some in-car audio solutions instead of hearing the same rubbish everday on the local radio stations. Anyway firstly I though of USB in-car audio entertainment systems...but they're so expensive. But then I heard about these FM Transmitters for audio devices such as the PSP. Anyway I've Ebayed them only to find hundreds available at amazingly cheap prices...most of which come from Hong Kong, only around £2 each. Anyway my question is do they actually work? Surely for this price there must be some fault in them. Could anyone please give me some advice or first- hand experience whether to take the risk in buying these. Also would I have to pay import taxes or something? Thanks Please reply |

I have one for my iPod, which I'm sure works the same way for PSP's and it worked perfectly.
From what I've gathered...all they do is take the audio that your device is putting out, and broadcast it to an unused short frequency (EX: 87.5) Then, you turn your radio to 87.5 and you hear your device on your car's stereo. The cool thing about this is that if your freind is driving alongside you or close enought...he can turn his radio to 87.5 and hear whatever you're listening to in your car.

Or you can go to Walmart and turn EVERY stereo to your station and blast the dirtyest music you got...hehehe I got a song that says ***** every other word...literally!!!
No offence to anyone though...

I bought one of them cheap ones off ebay and they DO work, just not very well, they can only transmit to one frequency (in UK that happened to be the same frequency as Radio2).
The signal was OK, just I had to change my car's frequency by 0.1Hz every now and again for some strange reason unbeknown to me. Eventually the wire that went from the transmitter to the PSP frayed and snapped. Good while it lasted, but I'd recommend spending a bit more on one where you can choose from a few different frequencies and will last longer. I like the look of the Griffin one.>> http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itrippsp/

Hi
Thanks so far guys for your feedback, highly appreciated. But I have seen cheap ones from Hong Kong that do allow different frequencies. Here is a link to one example: Link Does this product look in working order, realistic and reliable to you guys? If so, please let me know cos I want to order by this weekend. Thanks. Chris *EDIT* Made your URL a link to make the page not so wide. :) (EXASPIDEY) |

OLD TOPIC
however, I just realized that the best way to play music from your portable device (iPod, PSP, etc.) is to get one of those cassettes that has a cord coming out of it which you plug into the device. My sounds great in my truck...the only thing is...you need a cassette player... :?

Just a quick reminder about these things.
Most countries control the use of radio equipment. They limit the bands and the frequencies that you can use. This is so you don't interfere with radio gear that emergency services use as well as the more commercial broadcasters. Different countries use different bands. In the UK these things have just been made legal, but only when they use certain bands and have a limited range (to stop you making a pirate radio station with them  ) If you get a device like this from a different country, you may find they operate in illegal bands for your country! You may even get problems when getting the item delivered as it may get impounded by customs as "unlisenced radio equipment". I would say 99.9% of the time you'll be OK, just bear this in mind when ebaying!
