Like wot Exa said, all I'll add is that Skype also has a system that (once you join and pay a fee) allows VOIP phone calls to be transfered to a normal telephone line. So you can call someones home phone from your desktop PC (or VOIP equipment)

Yeah, my friend calls my cell phone all the time from her computer using skype. It sounds excellent.
