You know, I don't understand this want for VOIP on the PSP. It's probably because there are no free hotspots where I live apart from my own home where i can use my PC.

OUt and about I use my mobile phone. No hotspots to worry about and my calling plan gives me 400 free minutes! I've never run out yet!

So I'll repeat my point.

VOIP needs an internet connection. WiFi connections usually charge per megabyte. It would cost quite a lot to have a full phone conversation.

or do you have free hotspots in the area?

Yeah, where I go to school in Cali, the whole city that I live in has a free broadband wifi. It's actually pretty good considering its free. So i'll be using my psp on the bus, in coffe shops where I study, etc. Plus, in many places there are coffee shops that have free wifi.

I use skype quite a bit at home (calling friends in Brazil and Denmark), but I always have to do it at specific times that are quite inconvenient for me when I am home. Now I can call at whatever time I want (at 7:30 in the morning when i'm on the bus).

I don't even have a PSP and i'm already in love!!!!! When the camera comes out and I can video IM/Skype, i'm gonna be in heaven.

Also, if there is an AIM for PSP you can use IP Relay to make a weird kind of phone call. I tried it yesterday on my computer, and it actually worked. It was funny typing text and then having someone speak it to me on my cell phone. And it's free. Sweet.

Skype is an IM like program that uses VOIP (Voice Over IP) to make "phone" calls to other users over the internet. It's nifty! My mom uses it to talk to her family in Mexico. It can also use a webcam so you can have video chat.
