Hi! I'm new around here...
|
Hey all, new to the forum!
Anywho, does anyone know about any PSP screen replacements that have better refresh rates to reduce those nasty shadows? I'm already looking into the new PSP2TV adapter (http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?artc=3723), but that doesn't help me on the go. Thanks all, XeOn [User of Magik Missiles]

It's when fast motion occures on the screen, you get a sort of blur effect. If you've ever played Coded Arms, then saw what it looks like on the X-Play review, you'd know what I mean. Read the "Screen" portion of this (http://gear.ign.com/articles/598/598326p1.html) hands-on.

Yeah. Well it's because LCD screens that the PSP uses aren't really that fast. It only shows up for fast moving reddish objects though. Does it bother you that much?

You are confusing resfresh rates with response rates.
Doesn't bother me personally - never really noticed. The rules of thumb though is that the better the response rate, the worse the quality of display. There are a few exceptions to this though.

Refresh rate is the amount of times the screen is refreshed by the system controlling the display device. This can differ and is controlled by the software/hardware of the device sending the signal and is not by the physical screen itself but the screen has to support it. However, it is more relevent to CRTs that TFTs.
Response rates are particular to TFT devices and signify the speed in which the pixel cells can respond to an 'order' to change from one colour to another. It is measured by how fast a cell can go from black through to white then back to black again. It is this rate being slow that causes the 'ghosting' you refer to as the PSP's TFT cells aren't changing fast enough. A very good response rate is about 12ms - this will show virtually no ghosting. A bad response rate would be 35ms - this would be almost unplayable without getting a headache. I suspect the PSP's screen is somewhere inbetween.

Sorry, my mistake. I WAS reffering to the response time. Have any of you seen GTA: Liberty City Stories on the new PSP2TV? It's amazing. Looks really close to the PS2 San Andres.
